Brush Program
The Batavia Township residents
are being offered a brush removal program from
the highway department. The Brush program Starts April
12th, 2010 and end October 12th, 2010. During
this time period our crew members will run the
program once a week, usually every Monday. The
brush program is designed for incidental brush (limb or branch
breaks) and/or storm damage. With the limited time and
manpower our crew has it's very hard for us to keep
up with the brush removal so we ask that you please keep the piles
to a minimum. The first picture on this page shows a
pile of brush that would be rejected. The second shows how we
ask you to stack your brush.
We don't provide brush pick-up to homeowners who hire
their brush and/or tree trimming out to
someone. This program is strictly for the homewoner who
does their own trimming. If you hire someone or a landscaping
company they are responsible for hauling your brush
away. This also applies to limbs and logs
from tree(s) which may have fallen or been
taken down.
In some cases your pile may be tagged and not picked up.
If this occurs, the pile will be picked up the following monday as
long as the guidlines listed below are followed. We thank you
in advance for your cooperation.
-Longer limbs are easiest for our crew to handle so
please do not cut them into pieces.
- Pile must not contain yard waste (flowers, weeds,
grass, small sticks under 1 foot long, evergreen trimmings etc.)
that can be put in yard waste bags for your garbage collector to
pick up.
- Limbs & branches can't be tangled and
cut ends must be facing the road edge.
- Roots must be washed to prevent stones and
dirt from clogging the chipper.
-Thorns must be seperated from the pile of brush
and wrapped with twine.
- Keep piles
stacked to a maximum of 3 feet high.
- Pile must not contain poison ivy or poison oak.
Both of these plants are becoming a major problem in the
township. If either of these are found in a pile it will not
be picked up. Poison ivy/oak should be sprayed with weed
killer such as Round Up or spectracide. Keep in mind the oils
on these plants are still active even when the plant is
dead.
- Pile cannot contain wood (not from brush or tree
trimmings) that may have metal or nails.
Examples include fence posts, railroad ties, boards,
plywood and particle board. If any of these items are found
in a pile it will be rejected.
Please keep in mind that there are only two members of our road
crew and injury can occur if a brush pile is not stacked
correctly. If injur occurs, the brush program will be
suspended until further notice. Please follow these simple
guidelines to prevent injuries and there should be no issues
regarding brush removal. If you have any questions please
feel free to call us anytime at 630-879-5515.
Usually the first couple of weeks after New Years we
will come around and pick up Christmas trees discarded by
township residents. This will be done every
year.
We also will deliver mulch to our residents but we
usually have a waiting list. If you would like to be
added to the waiting list just call the phone number listed
above. Normally we will deliver the mulch we accumulated from
that week's brush pick up. You may also take the mulch we
have stored at our property on the southeast corner of Nelson Lake
Road and Deerpath Road at anytime.
